The Rivers.
Pennsylvania has approximately 86,000 miles of streams.
Below are a few rivers that I am most experianced with in terms of river flows, hatches, and of course float sections and wade fishing access points.
Lehigh River
The largest tributary of the Delaware River system, the Lehigh is a 109 mile long river that an angler could spend a lifetime exploring. This river starts as a 20 mile freestone stream high on the Pocono Plateau then descends through the remote Lehigh Gorge before widening as a larger river. Spring and Fall provide the best trout fishing opportunities with cold water and notable hatches. Around the 4th of July the trout fishing tends to slow down with increased water temperatures. This time of year is best for targeting small mouth bass or fishing colder rivers and streams. As cool autumn nights approach the Lehigh cools off once again and fall trout fishing begins. The autumn season has notable hatches, aggressive trout that eat streamers, and gorgeous scenery.
Upper Delaware River
One of the best big trout fisheries and longest free flowing rivers in the United States.
This river system includes the West Branch, East Branch, and Main Stem of the Delaware. With large numbers and sizes of wild brown and rainbow trout this river is a fishing destination right here in northeast Pennsylvania. Although the numbers and sizes of Delaware trout are incredible, the difficultly in catching them can challenge even expert anglers. Long casts and perfect fly presentation is critical for success on the Delaware. If you're ready for a challenge, this is the best in the area.
Middle Delaware River
Small mouth bass
Brodhead Creek
The most notable stream in the Pocono Mountains. The Brodhead has a mix of everything. You can find areas with easy wade access to the remote Brodhead gorge. There's sections of non-sticked Wild trout only and stocked sections.
